The Nikola Jokic endured one of the toughest playoff performances of his career as the Denver Nuggets fell 113-96 to the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 3, giving Minnesota a 2-1 series lead.
Jokic missed 19 of 26 shots and finished with an unusually inefficient outing, while Denver failed to reach 100 points for the first time since January. Teammate Jamal Murray described the performance as an outlier, saying he had never seen Jokic struggle in that way before.
Minnesota’s defensive strategy, led by Rudy Gobert, played a key role in limiting Jokic’s impact. The Nuggets star struggled against Gobert’s size and discipline, continuing a trend from earlier games in the series where Denver’s offense has slowed significantly.
The Nuggets had started the series strongly, winning Game 1 and building a large early lead in Game 2. However, Minnesota shifted momentum with a strong second-quarter run and has since taken control of the matchup.
Game 3 was defined early as Minnesota surged ahead after Denver’s poor shooting start, including a first quarter where the Nuggets hit just three of 21 shots. The Timberwolves built a commanding lead and maintained control throughout the rest of the game.
Coach David Adelman acknowledged Jokic’s difficult night but expressed confidence that the MVP-caliber star would respond strongly in the next game. He also pointed to poor offensive execution and screen-setting as key issues behind the loss.
In addition to Jokic’s struggles, Jamal Murray also had an off night, shooting poorly from the field, which further limited Denver’s scoring options. Injuries to key players, including Aaron Gordon and Peyton Watson, added to the Nuggets’ challenges in rotation and consistency.
Despite the setback, Jokic insisted he feels physically fine and the Nuggets remain focused on adjustments ahead of Game 4, where they will attempt to level the series.
