The third edition of the Elevate Basketball Clinic will take place on October 17, 2026, at the Rowe Park Sports Centre in Yaba, Lagos. Organisers expect hundreds of young participants under the age of 16 to attend the one-day programme.
The clinic is organised by Elevate Basketball Academy in partnership with the Lagos State Basketball Association. Since its launch in 2024, the initiative has grown into a platform for youth development, mentorship and community engagement through basketball.
Clinic coordinator Gbade Olatona said interest in the programme continues to increase, with more young people seeking opportunities to participate each year. He noted that the initiative goes beyond basketball training by encouraging leadership, responsibility and positive values among young people.
Akinwande Oshodi, founder and sponsor of the initiative, said the project was inspired by his personal experiences with basketball. A Lagos native based in the United States, Oshodi believes the sport can help young people overcome challenges and develop qualities that support their growth beyond the court.
He explained that basketball taught him discipline, perseverance, teamwork and the importance of believing in a greater purpose. Those lessons later influenced his decision to establish Elevate Basketball Academy and use the sport to create opportunities for younger generations.
Oshodi said the academy aims to help young athletes build confidence, discipline and resilience while preparing them for challenges in education, sports and everyday life.
The initiative delivers its objectives through youth clinics, mentorship, character development and community outreach. These activities are designed to help participants improve their basketball skills while developing habits and values that can support their long-term success.
Olatona stressed that the programme is not focused solely on producing talented basketball players. It also seeks to develop responsible citizens, future leaders and young people capable of making positive contributions to their communities.
The partnership with the Lagos State Basketball Association provides an organisational foundation for the clinic, bringing together basketball development and broader youth empowerment goals.
The October 17 event will provide participants with another opportunity to learn, interact and develop their abilities in a structured sporting environment. With hundreds of children expected, organisers hope the third edition will build on the progress recorded since the programme began.
Elevate Basketball Academy believes the sport can serve as a bridge between ambition and opportunity. Through the clinic, the organisers aim to show young people that basketball can teach valuable lessons about leadership, teamwork, service and personal growth.
