Stephen Curry Nears Return as Golden State Warriors Prepare for Final Play-In Push

Posted : 28 March 2026

The Golden State Warriors have received a significant boost in their postseason pursuit as superstar guard Stephen Curry nears a return to action. The team confirmed on Friday that Curry is making steady progress from a right knee injury. His next major milestone involves participating in a live 5-on-5 scrimmage in the coming days. This step is considered the final hurdle before the two-time MVP can be cleared for official game competition.

Curry has been sidelined since late January with patellofemoral pain syndrome and a bone bruise in his knee. The injury has forced the 38-year-old to miss 23 consecutive games during a critical stretch of the season. Before the injury, Curry was performing at an elite level. He averaged 27.2 points and 4.8 assists while shooting 39.1 percent from beyond the arc. His absence has been felt deeply, as the Warriors have struggled with a 7-15 record without their primary scoring threat.

Coach Steve Kerr addressed the urgency of the situation before Friday’s victory over the Washington Wizards. Kerr noted that Curry cannot simply jump into the high-intensity play-in tournament without prior conditioning. He emphasized that the guard needs a proper "runway" of regular-season games to find his rhythm. With only a handful of games remaining on the schedule, the coaching staff is wary of the ticking clock.

Despite the injury woes, the Warriors secured their third straight win on Friday. Kristaps Porzingis led the charge with 28 points, while young guard Brandin Podziemski contributed a double-double. The win keeps Golden State in 10th place in the Western Conference with a 36-38 record. While they are essentially locked into a play-in spot, the team is desperate to integrate Curry back into the rotation to improve their seeding.

The Warriors' medical report also offered hope regarding Seth Curry. The younger Curry brother has missed seven games with an adductor strain but is now considered day-to-day. His return alongside Stephen would bolster a backcourt that has been thin following season-ending injuries to Jimmy Butler III and Moses Moody. The Warriors will travel to face the Denver Nuggets on Sunday as they wait for their franchise star to complete his final phase of rehab.
