Posted : 05 September 2025

Defending champion Spain was eliminated from EuroBasket in the group stage following a 90-86 loss to Greece, led by Giannis Antetokounmpo’s 25 points and 14 rebounds. Tyler Dorsey added 22 points as Greece topped Group C and will face Israel in the round of 16 on Sunday.

Greece Tops Group C with Win Over Spain

Spain entered the match with a 2-2 record and faced a must-win scenario after a loss to Georgia in its opener impacted tiebreakers. Greece, having already qualified with three wins from four games, built a 50-35 halftime lead.

Spain rallied in the second half and briefly took the lead twice in the fourth quarter, but Kostas Sloukas sealed the win for the Greeks with a crucial layup and two free throws in the final minute. Jaime Pradilla contributed 14 points and Mario Saint-Supery added 13 for Spain, the 2022 EuroBasket champions.

Other Group C Results: Bosnia, Georgia, Belgium, and Italy

Bosnia and Herzegovina secured a spot in the knockout stage by defeating Georgia 84-76. Utah Jazz center Jusuf Nurkic posted 15 points and 12 rebounds for his third consecutive double-double, while Georgia’s Sandro Mamukelashvili led his team with 20 points and eight rebounds. Despite the loss, Georgia advanced in fourth place due to Spain’s defeat and will meet France on Sunday.

Belgium edged already-qualified Poland 70-69 in a tight matchup, while Italy crushed bottom-ranked Cyprus 89-54 to advance and set up a clash with Slovenia in the knockout round.

Dominant Performances in Group D

France dominated Iceland 114-74 in Katowice, Poland, with Zaccharie Risacher leading the way with 15 points, seven rebounds, and three made three-pointers. The Olympic silver medalists spread the scoring across multiple players and bench contributions totaled 66 points, allowing France to finish atop Group D.

Slovenia star Luka Doncic dazzled with 37 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists as his team defeated Israel 106-96, completing a third consecutive Group D win. Despite Israel’s Deni Avdija scoring 34 points with nine rebounds, Slovenia maintained control and both teams had already secured knockout stage spots in Riga, Latvia.

Upcoming Round-of-16 Matchups

The EuroBasket round of 16 begins Saturday with Turkey facing Sweden, Germany taking on Portugal, Lithuania versus Latvia, and Serbia clashing with Finland. Greece, Slovenia, France, Bosnia, Italy, and Georgia will also advance into the knockout stage, setting up an exciting series of elimination games.
