The 2026 Basketball Africa League (BAL) postseason lineup has begun to take shape. RSSB Tigers of Rwanda and Petro de Luanda from Angola officially secured their places in the playoffs on Friday. Both teams successfully navigated the competitive Kalahari Conference held at the SunBet Arena in South Africa.
RSSB Tigers achieved qualification despite having a rest day during the Friday session. Their advancement was confirmed mathematically after Nairobi City Thunder suffered an 80–107 defeat to Al Ahly Ly. The Tigers currently maintain a perfect record in the tournament with three consecutive wins. They notably defeated Al Ahly Ly, Petro de Luanda, and the Johannesburg Giants to cement their top standing.
Petro de Luanda joined the Rwandan side in the next round after a dominant 100–75 victory over Tanzania’s Dar City. This win improved the Angolan champions' record to 3–1 in the conference. It marks the sixth consecutive time the 2024 BAL winners have reached the playoff stage. After a sluggish start to the campaign, the Luanda-based team found their rhythm to ensure regional dominance.
The qualification of these two sides leaves only two playoff slots remaining for the Kalahari Conference. Four teams are still in contention to fill those positions before the tournament shifts to Kigali in May. Al Ahly Ly, Dar City, Nairobi City Thunder, and the Johannesburg Giants must now fight for survival in the final games.
Nairobi City Thunder currently faces the most difficult path following three losses in four appearances. Despite their precarious 1–3 record, the Kenyan side remains mathematically alive but requires specific results from other fixtures. Coach Bradley Ibs will need his team to secure a massive win in their final game while hoping for favorable scores elsewhere.
The Kalahari Conference concludes this weekend with high-stakes matchups scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. RSSB Tigers will look to maintain their unbeaten streak against Dar City and Nairobi City Thunder. Meanwhile, Petro de Luanda will finish their group stage assignments against the Johannesburg Giants. The final standings will determine the seeding for the elite eight-team playoffs in Rwanda.
