Trail Blazers Sign Robert Williams III to Three-Year, $44 Million Extension

The Portland Trail Blazers have secured the future of center Robert Williams III after agreeing to a three-year, $44 million contract extension that will keep him with the franchise through the 2028-29 NBA season.

The new deal rewards Williams following one of his healthiest campaigns in recent years. After appearing in just 61 regular-season games combined over the previous three seasons due to injuries, the 28-year-old featured in 59 games this season and also played in all five of Portland's playoff contests during its first-round series against the San Antonio Spurs.

Williams made a valuable contribution throughout the season, averaging 6.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game while shooting better than 70 percent from the field. His efficiency around the basket and defensive presence helped strengthen Portland's frontcourt.

The Trail Blazers will continue to boast considerable depth at the center position next season, with Donovan Clingan and Yang Hansen also under contract as the franchise builds toward the future.

Throughout his NBA career, Williams has earned a reputation as one of the league's most effective rim protectors. His athleticism, shot-blocking ability, and defensive instincts have rarely been questioned. Instead, the biggest challenge has been maintaining his fitness, as injuries have frequently interrupted his progress.

Despite those setbacks, Williams has consistently delivered when available. He owns career averages of 72 percent shooting from the field and 1.6 blocks per game, highlighting his impact on both ends of the floor through efficient scoring near the basket and elite interior defense.

Williams also brings significant postseason experience to Portland's young roster. During his time with the Boston Celtics, he played a key role in multiple playoff campaigns, including starting six games during the 2022 NBA Finals.

By extending Williams' contract, the Trail Blazers are showing confidence that he can remain a central part of their rotation and provide veteran leadership, defensive stability, and valuable playoff experience as the team continues to develop its promising core.
