Reigning champions Rivers Hoopers made a statement at the start of the 2025 Nigeria Basketball Premier League season, defeating Kwara Falcons 83-61 in Port Harcourt.
Despite showing signs of rust in the opening two quarters, the Hoopers found their rhythm in the second half and pulled away to secure an 18-point win, led by the performance of John Idoga.
Head coach Ogoh Odaudu expressed satisfaction with the result but emphasized the need for continuous improvement. “It was a good first game, especially with a few new players still trying to gel. We didn’t do everything right, but we’ll get better in the next outing,” Odaudu said. He also commended Kwara Falcons for their resilience despite limited numbers.
With Oluyole Warriors and Delta Force withdrawing from the league, the Atlantic Conference Group B now consists of only Rivers Hoopers and Kwara Falcons. Both teams will meet again in the return fixture scheduled for Wednesday, September 3rd, at the same venue.
