As the countdown begins to the 2025 Nigeria Premier Basketball League (NPBL) Final Four, host city Port Harcourt is buzzing with anticipation, with Rivers Hoopers at the center of the excitement. The reigning champions, who dominated the league in 2023 and 2024, are aiming for a rare three-peat. With six titles already to their name, the KingsMen are determined to cement their dynasty with a seventh championship.
Team captain Victor Anthony Koko, a veteran with more NPBL titles than any active player, says the Hoopers are entering the final phase of the season with unmatched focus. “Everyone is locked in… mentally, physically,” he said. “We know what’s on the line, and we’re going all out. This is not a team that shows up to entertain; we’re here to win championships.”
The path to glory will not be easy. Lagos Legends, Gboko City Chiefs, and Nigeria Customs — all teams with strong regular-season performances — are ready to challenge the Hoopers’ supremacy during the three-day showdown from November 21 to 23. Beyond the title, Rivers Hoopers are also chasing qualification for the next Basketball Africa League (BAL), adding extra significance to this year’s Final Four.
Koko emphasized that playing at home gives the Hoopers added motivation. “Port Harcourt is our city, our home. We want to give our fans something to celebrate again,” he said confidently. “Hoopers will not disappoint. We’re ready, and we’re hungry.”
As the stage is set for a fiercely contested finale, fans across the country — particularly in oil-rich Port Harcourt — are eager to see whether the KingsMen can retain their crown and continue their reign as Nigeria’s most dominant basketball force.
