The Detroit Pistons extended their winning streak to eight games with a commanding 117-97 victory over the Boston Celtics on Wednesday night. Malik Beasley led the charge with 26 points, while Cade Cunningham contributed 21 points and 11 assists.
The win not only marked Detroit’s first eight-game winning streak in a season since 2008 but also ended a 12-game losing run against Boston, just two nights after snapping a 10-game skid against the LA Clippers. Meanwhile, the Celtics, who had won six straight and 10 of their last 11 games, suffered their second-largest defeat of the season.
Jayson Tatum led Boston with 27 points, while Derrick White and Payton Pritchard each chipped in 18. The Celtics had another strong shooting night from beyond the arc, making 20 three-pointers, tying the 2022-23 Golden State Warriors for the most such games in a single season.
Despite this, Boston was unable to maintain its dominance, falling to 17-2 in games where they hit at least 20 threes this season. Detroit capitalized on its size advantage, outrebounding the Celtics 49-33, with Jalen Duren adding 13 points and 11 rebounds.
The game remained tight at halftime, tied at 55, but the Pistons took control in the third quarter, outscoring Boston 35-24. Heading into the fourth with a 90-79 lead, Detroit quickly extended the margin to 19 points, putting the game out of reach.
The Celtics’ 12-game winning streak over the Pistons, which had been their longest active run against any opponent, came to an end. Detroit now shares the NBA’s longest active winning streak with the Cleveland Cavaliers as they continue their surge in the Eastern Conference standings.
