Pacers Dominate Spurs as NBA Expands Global Reach

Posted : 28 January 2025

Victor Wembanyama’s return to Paris with the San Antonio Spurs ended in disappointment as they suffered a crushing 136-98 defeat to the Indiana Pacers at the Accor Arena. Despite Wembanyama’s 20 points and 12 rebounds, the Spurs struggled to keep pace with the Pacers, who were led by Tyrese Haliburton’s 28 points and Pascal Siakam’s 23.

This marked the second game of the NBA’s regular-season showcase in the French capital, following the Spurs’ earlier 140-110 victory over the Pacers on Thursday.

The game was part of the NBA’s ongoing effort to promote basketball globally, with Paris hosting regular-season matches for the fourth year. Haliburton expressed his excitement about the experience, stating, "It’s been really fun to be here. It’s helping grow the game."

The Pacers’ dominant performance capped off their visit on a high note, with Haliburton emphasizing the importance of maintaining momentum as the season progresses. Meanwhile, the Spurs remain fourth from the bottom in the Western Conference, while the Pacers sit fifth in the Eastern Conference.

Elsewhere in the league, the Boston Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks 122-107 in a rematch of last season’s NBA Finals. Jayson Tatum led the Celtics with 24 points, supported by Derrick White and Jaylen Brown, who scored 23 and 22 points, respectively.

The Houston Rockets overcame a late surge by the Cleveland Cavaliers to secure a 135-131 victory, while Anthony Davis powered the Los Angeles Lakers to a 118-108 win over the Golden State Warriors in San Francisco with 36 points and 13 rebounds.
