Onitsha City to Host JNF/FIBA Africa Zone 3 Elite 5 Basketball Camp and 3×3 Tournament

Posted : 22 June 2025

This year’s edition of the Elite 5 Basketball Camp and 3×3 Championship, organized by the Jordan Nwora Foundation (JNF) in partnership with FIBA Africa Zone 3 and the Honourable Tony Nwora Foundation, has been scheduled to take place in Onitsha, Anambra State, the economic hub of South-East Nigeria.

The announcement was made by Colonel Samuel Ahmedu (Rtd.), President of FIBA Africa Zone 3, who stated that the age-grade basketball event will dunk off on July 1 and run through July 3, 2025.

The three-day camp and 3×3 tournament will feature boys and girls aged 14 to 18 from across Nigeria, offering a platform for nurturing young talent and promoting grassroots basketball development.

The event is the brainchild of Jordan Nwora, NBA Champion and Turkish League Champion, currently playing for Anadolu Efes in Turkey. The 6’8” small forward, known for his generosity and love for youth development, was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks in 2020 and has played for four NBA teams.

Activities will begin daily at 7:00 a.m. and end at 5:00 p.m., and will include intensive training sessions in areas such as:

  • Attacking and defending tactics

  • Slam dunk execution and advanced moves

  • Recovery from ball possession loss

  • Ball movement (on and off the ball)

  • Shooting drills

  • Dribbling and passing skills

  • Teamwork and bonding

  • Tactical formations

  • Skills challenges

The Jordan Nwora Foundation leverages the power of sport to improve the lives of underprivileged children in both the United States and Africa. The Foundation is committed to providing both athletic and educational opportunities to children.

Over the past five years, similar programs have been held in Lafia (North Central), Lagos (South-West), Nairobi (Kenya), Monrovia (Liberia), Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire), and Accra (Ghana), impacting over 2,000 boys and girls.

The growing reputation of the Elite 5 Basketball Camp continues to attract sponsors. The current sponsor list is led by Global Mobile Technology and the Anambra Basketball Association.
