Olivier Rioux Becomes Tallest Teen to Score in College Basketball

Posted : 18 December 2025

Olivier Rioux, a 19-year-old Canadian center for the Florida Gators, has made history as the tallest player to score a basket in college basketball. Standing at 7ft 9in (2.36m), Rioux completed his first official dunk during Florida’s 102-61 victory over Saint Francis.

Rioux first appeared on a college basketball court last month, already drawing attention for his extraordinary height. He had previously scored a free throw against Merrimack on November 21, making him the tallest teenager to make points in college basketball.

Guinness World Records recognized Rioux as the tallest teenager in 2021, at the time measuring 7ft 5in (2.26m). Since then, he has grown even taller, further solidifying his place in basketball history.

If Rioux were to join the NBA, his height would surpass that of the league’s current tallest players. French star Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs stands at 7ft 4in (2.24m), while Zach Edey of the Memphis Grizzlies measures 7ft 3in (2.21m). Several other NBA players, including Donovan Clingan, Walker Kessler, and Kristaps Porzingis, range between 7ft 2in (2.18m).

Historically, the tallest NBA players were Manute Bol and Gheorghe Muresan, both standing at 7ft 7in (2.31m). Bol played from 1985 to 1997, while Muresan, nicknamed "The Giant," competed from 1991 to 2001. Rioux’s height now exceeds theirs, positioning him as a potential record-setter should he reach the professional level.

With his remarkable stature and early achievements, Olivier Rioux is already capturing global attention, and fans are eager to see how his college career progresses and whether he could dominate at the professional level in the future.
