The Oklahoma City Thunder continued their remarkable form by overwhelming the Phoenix Suns 138–89 in the NBA Cup quarterfinals, equalling the best 25-game start to a season in NBA history. With this victory, the defending champions have now won 24 of their first 25 games, tying the record set by the Golden State Warriors in the 2015–16 season.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, last season’s MVP, led the Thunder with 28 points at Paycom Center, extending his streak of consecutive 20-point games to 96. The win also marked the Thunder’s 16th consecutive victory, a franchise record, as they prepare to face the San Antonio Spurs in Saturday’s semi-final in Las Vegas.
Forward Jalen Williams highlighted the team’s mindset, stating, “Winning is never boring,” as the Thunder continue their dominance. Since the start of the 2024–25 season, Oklahoma City has won 92 of 107 regular-season games, including a Western Conference-topping 68–14 record last season. The current NBA record for most wins in a single season remains 73, set by the Warriors in 2015–16.
The Spurs secured their semi-final spot with a 132–119 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers at Crypto.com Arena. The NBA Cup, an annual in-season tournament, sees all games except the final count toward regular-season standings. Last year, the Thunder fell to the Milwaukee Bucks in the Cup final, making this season’s pursuit of the title even more meaningful.
