OG Anunoby Ruled Out of Game 3 with Hamstring Injury, Doubtful for Game 4

Posted : 10 May 2024

OG Anunoby, the forward for the New York Knicks, will be sidelined for Friday's Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals due to a strained left hamstring, as confirmed by the team on Thursday. Sources disclosed that Anunoby is unlikely to make a return for Sunday's Game 4 either. The decision was made following an evaluation of Anunoby's injury before the team's departure for Indiana, with further assessment scheduled for Thursday night.

The injury occurred during the third quarter of the Knicks' victory over the Indiana Pacers in Game 2, as Anunoby attempted a transition layup, causing him immediate discomfort when planting his leg. Jalen Brunson was compelled to commit a foul to facilitate Anunoby's substitution, allowing him to hobble off the court and head to the locker room. Adding to the Knicks' concerns, Brunson's availability for Game 3 is in question due to a foot injury.

Anunoby's absence poses a significant setback for the Knicks, given his pivotal role as a defensive stalwart and his recent offensive contributions, including a playoff career-high 28 points prior to his injury.

Since joining the Knicks from Toronto in December, Anunoby's impact has been profound, with the team registering an impressive record with him on the court. His injury compounds the Knicks' woes, following recent setbacks including the loss of Mitchell Robinson to an ankle injury and Bojan Bogdanovic to season-ending surgeries, further straining the team's depth and resilience.
