Nikola Jokic Exits Nuggets’ Loss With Left Knee Injury

Posted : 30 December 2025

Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic left the court at halftime of Monday night’s 147-123 loss to the Miami Heat after injuring his left knee in the closing seconds of the second quarter. He did not return for the second half and is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Tuesday to determine the extent of the injury.

The injury occurred when Jokic, positioned under the basket, stepped forward to assist teammate Spencer Jones in defending a drive by Miami’s Jaime Jaquez Jr. In the process, Jones inadvertently stepped on Jokic’s left foot, causing his knee to buckle slightly.

Jokic collapsed to the court but was able to leave for the locker room under his own power, albeit with a pronounced limp.

Nuggets coach David Adelman expressed concern for Jokic’s wellbeing, emphasizing that the team would handle the situation carefully and wait for more information from medical evaluations.

Jokic had contributed 21 points, 8 assists, and 5 rebounds in the first half, highlighting his central role in Denver’s success. The Nuggets have already faced significant injury challenges this season, missing starters Christian Braun, Aaron Gordon, and Cameron Johnson.

An extended absence for Jokic, a three-time MVP averaging a near triple-double this season, would be a major setback for the team and could impact Denver’s standing in the competitive Western Conference.

Despite his durability in recent seasons, Jokic’s importance to the Nuggets cannot be overstated. Guard Jamal Murray stressed the team’s focus on Jokic’s recovery and readiness to step up if needed.

Both the Nuggets and the wider NBA community will be closely monitoring his condition as the team prepares for a game against the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday.
