NFL owners have unanimously approved the record $9.612 billion sale of the Seattle Seahawks to an ownership group led by billionaire Vinod Khosla. The agreement represents the most expensive franchise sale in NFL history and the second-largest transaction in North American sports, behind the Los Angeles Lakers' $10 billion sale in 2025.
The deal was agreed with the estate of late Microsoft co-founder Paul G. Allen on July 11 and required approval from at least 24 of the NFL's 32 owners. The unanimous vote came during a special league meeting in Atlanta, clearing the major approval hurdle for the transaction.
Khosla, the co-founder of Sun Microsystems and founder of Khosla Ventures, said his group was humbled to take control of a franchise that has just won the Super Bowl. He said the new ownership's priority will be maintaining Seattle's winning culture, pursuing another championship and taking a long-term approach to running the team.
The transaction also marks the end of the Allen family's nearly three-decade association with the Seahawks. Paul Allen purchased the franchise in 1997 and helped prevent its relocation, while his sister Jody Allen later oversaw the team following his death in 2018.
Before completing the acquisition, Khosla will need to relinquish his minority stake in the San Francisco 49ers because NFL rules prohibit an owner from holding interests in two franchises. The Seahawks' ownership transition is expected to be completed ahead of the start of the 2026 regular season.
