New York Knicks Reach First NBA Finals Since 1999 After Sweeping Cavaliers

Posted : 26 May 2026

The New York Knicks secured a place in the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999 after a dominant 130-93 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

The Knicks completed a 4-0 sweep in the series and extended their franchise-record playoff winning streak to 11 games with another impressive performance at Madison Square Garden.

Karl-Anthony Towns led the scoring effort with 19 points and 14 rebounds, while Finals MVP of the series Jalen Brunson added 15 points. Brunson reflected on the achievement after the game, crediting his teammates for their support and belief throughout the playoff run.

The Knicks, who won NBA championships in 1970 and 1973, had not appeared in the Finals since losing to the San Antonio Spurs in 1999. Brunson’s father, Rick Brunson, was part of that Knicks team and now serves as an assistant coach with the franchise.

New York will now face either the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder or the Spurs in the NBA Finals, with the Western Conference series currently level at 2-2.

Landry Shamet contributed 16 points off the bench, making all four of his three-point attempts. Despite the convincing series win, he emphasized the team’s focus remains on winning the championship.

The Knicks took control early, closing the first quarter with an 8-0 run before opening the second quarter with 12 unanswered points to build a huge lead. Cleveland struggled to recover and committed 22 turnovers as New York maintained complete control throughout the second half.

Donovan Mitchell scored 31 points for the Cavaliers, but it was not enough to prevent the team’s exit from the playoffs.

With momentum continuing to build, the Knicks are now four wins away from capturing their first NBA title in more than five decades.
