NBBF board de-associates itself from third term bid for members

Posted : 06 January 2025

The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has quashed rumors about the current board’s interest in a third-term tenure.

To clarify matters, the Vice President of the NBBF, Babs Ogunade, said no board member is discussing elections or a third term for President Engineer Musa Kida.

“There is no third term in the NBBF constitution. The constitution is very clear, and I am very close to Musa Kida. He is not thinking about any third term, and that I can tell you for free,” he stated.

“The NBBF constitution is very clear: no individual or group of persons can change it without amending it according to the laid-down rules and regulations. All relevant stakeholders must give the green light for any amendment if necessary.”

Referring to matters in the courts, Ogunade projected a rewarding 2025, focusing on the full implementation of all the federation's programs for the year.

He mentioned that the 2025 activity calendar would soon be made public and is packed with major competitions.

“Our focus in the federation is to kick off these events and programs and follow through. In February, we will be in Libya for the 2025 FIBA Afrobasket Qualifiers. The buildup is already underway, with the female national team and the junior national team also involved,” the former national team captain explained.

“The federation wants to build on the excellent performances of D’Tigress and the Junior D’Tigress on the international scene while we aim to run a comprehensive Men’s Premier League.”

The former Lagos State Basketball Association boss expressed the board’s determination to finish strong.

“With our hands full with both domestic and international competitions, we will give it our best shot as the tenure of this current NBBF board comes to an end,” he concluded.

The current board of the NBBF was elected on January 31, 2022, in Benin City, Edo State, with its tenure set to expire in January 2026.
