NBA report admits missed call in Lakers’ dramatic overtime win over Nuggets

Posted : 16 March 2026

The NBA has acknowledged an officiating error during the closing moments of the dramatic matchup between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Denver Nuggets. According to the league’s Last Two Minute Report released on Sunday, a foul called on Spencer Jones against Austin Reaves with 9.2 seconds left in the fourth quarter should not have been awarded.

At that moment, Denver held a 116-113 lead when Reaves received the inbound pass. The report stated that Jones actually stripped the ball cleanly from the Lakers guard, which should have resulted in the ball going out of bounds rather than a foul. Instead, Reaves was sent to the free-throw line and converted, bringing the Lakers within a single point. The report did not clarify whether the possession would have remained with Los Angeles or been ruled a turnover.

The dramatic sequence continued moments later. After free throws from Cameron Johnson restored a three-point advantage for Denver, Reaves returned to the line. He made the first free throw and intentionally missed the second, collecting the rebound before scoring a floater to tie the game and force overtime.

The contest was eventually decided in the extra period when Luka Dončić knocked down a game-winning jumper, giving the Lakers a thrilling 127-125 victory over the Nuggets.

Elsewhere in the NBA, Shai Gilgeous‑Alexander delivered another influential performance to guide the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 116-103 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Thunder star finished with 20 points and 10 assists as Oklahoma City secured its eighth consecutive victory.

Gilgeous-Alexander also extended his remarkable run of games with at least 20 points to 128, surpassing the previous mark set by Wilt Chamberlain. Despite entering the final quarter with only 10 points, he reached the milestone late in the game, sinking a free throw after being fouled on a jumper against Anthony Edwards.

Chet Holmgren contributed 21 points and nine rebounds for the Thunder, while Isaiah Joe added 20 points as Oklahoma City improved to a league-best 53-15 record. For Minnesota, Julius Randle led the scoring with 32 points, while Edwards added 19.

Oklahoma City’s defensive pressure proved decisive as the Thunder forced 22 turnovers while committing just seven. The hosts also dominated the shot count, attempting 101 field goals compared with Minnesota’s 77. After trailing at halftime, the Thunder surged in the second half to take control and seal another impressive victory.
