Michael Jordan’s Historic NBA Finals Jersey Fetches $14 Million

Posted : 12 October 2026

A game-worn jersey belonging to basketball legend Michael Jordan has reportedly sold for $14 million in a private transaction, marking a record price for basketball memorabilia. The auction house Hunt Auctions announced the deal on Monday, identifying Miami real estate investor Ron Firman as the buyer.

The iconic red Chicago Bulls jersey was worn by Jordan during Game 2 of the 1998 NBA Finals on June 5, when the Bulls faced the Utah Jazz. Chicago won the game to level the series at one victory apiece, setting the stage for a championship run that would culminate in a six-game series victory. The title marked Jordan’s sixth NBA championship and his final championship with the Bulls.

Jordan’s final season with Chicago later gained renewed attention through The Last Dance, a 10-part documentary series released in 2020 that chronicled the team’s 1997–98 campaign and the end of its dominant championship era.

David Hunt, president of Hunt Auctions, said the transaction demonstrated how Jordan-related collectibles have evolved into high-value assets comparable to iconic works of art. He described the sale as a significant milestone for the sports memorabilia industry, reflecting the enduring demand for items connected to the basketball superstar.

The $14 million sale is the second-highest known price paid for a game-worn jersey across all sports. The record remains with a New York Yankees jersey worn by Babe Ruth during the 1932 World Series, which sold for $24.12 million in 2024. Ruth wore the jersey when he hit his famous “called shot” home run against the Chicago Cubs.

Jordan’s 1998 Finals jerseys have repeatedly attracted enormous sums from collectors. His Game 1 jersey sold for approximately $10.1 million in 2022, while another jersey worn during Game 3 of the same Finals brought in about $12.3 million in September 2026. The latest private sale surpasses those previous prices for Jordan Finals jerseys.

Firman expressed excitement about acquiring the historic item, which has a documented ownership history dating back to 2003, when a private collector purchased it directly from the Bulls. According to Hunt Auctions, the jersey has changed hands only once since that original purchase, maintaining a relatively limited chain of ownership.

The market for Jordan memorabilia extends beyond game-worn jerseys. In 2023, a pair of sneakers he wore during Game 2 of the 1998 Finals sold through Sotheby’s for $2.2 million, setting a record for the most expensive sneakers sold at the time. The latest jersey transaction further underscores the lasting commercial appeal of Jordan’s legacy and the growing demand for collectibles linked to landmark moments in sports history.
