The 2025 Zenith Bank/NBBF Women’s Basketball Final Eight produced fireworks on Wednesday as defending champions MFM recovered from their opening defeat to crush Nigeria Customs 78-42.
After a shaky start to their title defense with a 51-41 loss to Dolphins Basketball Club, Coach Ochuko Owolabi’s team showed resilience and determination, delighting their fans with a convincing win that kept their knockout hopes alive. From the tip-off, MFM dominated proceedings, leaving Customs struggling to find rhythm throughout the game.
The result leaves Nigeria Customs with slim chances of qualifying for the knockout stage after also losing 51-47 to Titans in their opening fixture. They must win their final group match convincingly to stand any chance of advancing.
In another must-win clash, Bayelsa Blue Whales bounced back from an opening defeat to beat Air Warriors 65-47, thanks to teamwork and discipline under Coach Tony Nelson. Meanwhile, First Bank of Lagos, the “Elephant Girls,” maintained their unbeaten run with a 52-44 victory over Royal Aces, setting up a decisive clash with Air Warriors.
Elsewhere, Dolphins Basketball Club secured their second straight win, dismantling Titans 69-39 with strong ball movement and clinical finishing. The final group games will now determine who advances to the knockout stage, with MFM set to face Titans in a crucial encounter.
