MFM Complete Perfect Atlantic Run as Customs, Aso Battle for Savannah Top Spot

MFM completed a perfect first phase in the 2026 Zenith Bank/NBBF Women’s Basketball Premier League after defeating First Bank 62-37 in their final Atlantic Conference game in Lagos. The Olukoya Babes finished with seven wins from seven games and strengthened their status as one of the leading contenders for the title.

The victory over First Bank capped an outstanding campaign for MFM, who had already established themselves as the team to beat in the Atlantic Conference. Their unbeaten run included a 61-32 victory over defending champions Dolphins earlier in the phase, underlining their consistency against established opposition.

Victoria Queens finished second after an impressive debut campaign. The newcomers recorded six wins and one defeat, with their only loss coming against MFM, while First Bank ended the phase in third place after another strong showing in Lagos.

Bayelsa Blue Whales secured fourth position to complete the Atlantic Conference teams expected to progress. Royal Aces also produced an important late result by defeating defending champions Dolphins, who endured a difficult title defence after several heavy defeats.

The Savannah Conference remains undecided, with Nigeria Customs and Aso Sky Queens set for a crucial rescheduled encounter. Customs have maintained their position near the top of the standings, while Aso Sky Queens have continued to impress after entering the competition as debutants.

Aso Sky Queens strengthened their challenge with a commanding victory over Nasarawa Amazons. The result kept them in contention for first place and set up a decisive finish against Customs.

Nigeria Customs have also maintained a strong campaign. They recorded early wins over Titans and Nasarawa Amazons and have remained among the leading teams in Jos as the conference race approaches its conclusion.

The remaining Customs-Aso Sky fixture carries major significance because it will determine the final order at the top of the Savannah Conference. The game was previously suspended after poor visibility affected play at the Basketball Arena, Rayfield, leaving the two sides to complete the contest.

The conference phase is being used to determine the teams that will advance to the later stages of the competition. Four teams from each conference will qualify for the Final Eight stage in Lagos after the first and second phases.

With MFM already setting the pace in Lagos, attention now turns to the Savannah decider. Nigeria Customs and Aso Sky Queens have the opportunity to claim top billing before the league moves towards its decisive stages.
