Coach JJ Redick: Luka Doncic Deserves MVP if Lakers Maintain Hot Streak

Los Angeles Lakers coach JJ Redick has voiced strong support for Luka Doncic as a frontrunner for the NBA MVP award, citing the star guard’s dominant performances and leadership on the court. Redick emphasized that if the Lakers finish the regular season as strong as they’ve been playing, Doncic’s impact makes him the most deserving candidate.

Since February 28, Doncic has averaged 36.5 points on 49.3% shooting, along with 8.1 rebounds, 7.1 assists, and 2.3 steals, leading the Lakers to a 14-2 record during this stretch.

Redick highlighted the team’s 24-10 record since January 18 as further proof of Doncic’s influence, noting that he is the “engine driving all of our winning.” He also praised Doncic’s dedication to fitness, saying his conditioning is better than it has been since his early NBA seasons.

Despite his career-long excellence, Doncic, 27, has yet to claim an MVP award, finishing in the top ranks of voting in multiple seasons without winning.

This season, he leads the league in scoring with a career-best 33.7 points per game, tops in 40-plus and 30-plus point games, ranks third in assists, and is among the league leaders in rebounds, steals, and charges drawn.

Doncic has remained humble about the MVP conversation, insisting the media decides and letting his play speak for itself.
