LeBron James Ties All-Time Games Played Record in Lakers Win Over Heat

Posted : 20 March 2026

After a grueling travel schedule and ongoing treatment for his arthritic left foot, LeBron James suited up for the Los Angeles Lakers Thursday night and made history against his former team, the Miami Heat. The Lakers won 134-126, and the 41-year-old James played in his 1,611th career game, tying Hall of Famer Robert Parish for the all-time NBA games-played record.

Parish, who set the record nearly 30 years ago, expressed admiration for James’ longevity and professionalism. “If anyone is deserving of breaking the iron man record, I would say LeBron James is,” Parish told ESPN. “He takes such good care of himself. His approach to fitness and what he puts into his body reflects how I felt about my own career.”

James has consistently emphasized availability and leadership as his primary goals. “You can't be a leader and practice what you preach if you’re not available to your teammates,” he said. His dedication has paid off: coming off a 30-point, 13-for-14 performance against Houston the night before, James recorded 19 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists against Miami, helping the Lakers extend their winning streak to eight games.

Even in his 23rd NBA season, James continues to produce at an elite level, averaging 21.4 points, 6.8 assists, and 5.6 rebounds this year. Parish noted the impressiveness of this sustained performance, pointing out that in his final season at age 43, he averaged just 3.7 points and 2.1 rebounds. Lakers coach JJ Redick credited James’ “competitive stamina” and relentless focus as the keys to his durability and impact.

Reflecting on his career milestone, James expressed appreciation for Parish. “Shout out Chief, man,” he said. “He's super cool. He’s dope. I like him.” Parish, in turn, called James “an all-time great” and insisted the game should make room for him among the NBA’s legends. With this milestone, James adds another chapter to a storied résumé that includes four championships, four Finals MVPs, four regular-season MVPs, and the all-time points record.
