LeBron James’ 1,297-Game Double-Digit Scoring Streak Ends, But Victory Prevails

Posted : 05 December 2025

LeBron James’ remarkable streak of consecutive double-digit scoring games came to an end Thursday night, but the Lakers still walked away with a 123-120 victory over the Toronto Raptors. The NBA’s all-time leading scorer finished with just eight points, yet delivered the game-winning assist to Rui Hachimura as time expired.

Despite the streak ending, James remained unconcerned. “None,” he said when asked about the milestone. “We won.” Instead of forcing a shot to extend his streak, he chose to make the right basketball play, passing to Hachimura for a clutch three-pointer that secured the win.

“Just playing the game the right way. You always make the right play,” James said afterward. “That’s been my approach my whole career, how I was taught to play the game.” Lakers coach JJ Redick noted James’ awareness of the streak but praised his unselfish decision-making.

James re-entered the game with just over five minutes left, having scored six points on 3-of-15 shooting. He tied the score with a basket at 1:46 remaining but missed a 14-foot attempt that would have reached double digits. With a chance to shoot in the final seconds, he opted to pass instead. “The basketball gods, if you do it the right way, they tend to reward you,” Redick said.

The streak began on January 6, 2007, and had grown to an unprecedented 1,297 consecutive games. By comparison, Michael Jordan’s longest streak was 866 games, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar had 787, and Karl Malone recorded 575. Among current players, Kevin Durant now leads with 267 consecutive games.

James’ teammates praised his selflessness. “He had the opportunity but, because of the player he is, he made the unselfish play, passed it to Rui, and we won the game,” Lakers center Jake LaRavia said. The streak was rarely a focus late in games; entering Thursday, James had already scored 10 points by the start of the fourth quarter in 1,266 games.

Recent challenges hinted the streak could end. James had nine points going into the fourth against Dallas and six points against Phoenix earlier in the week. While he managed to extend it against the Suns, it ultimately concluded against the Raptors—a game he still celebrated as a victory.

“I always just make the right play,” James said. “Win, lose, or draw, the game gods are always giving back when you do the right thing.”
