The New York Knicks pulled off another impressive comeback to win the second game of their NBA Conference play-off semi-final against the Boston Celtics. With just 12.7 seconds left, Jalen Brunson made two crucial free throws to give New York a 91-90 lead.
Mikal Bridges then sealed the victory by knocking the ball away from the Celtics to deny them a final chance. Despite trailing by as many as 20 points in the third quarter and 16 in the fourth, the Knicks managed to hold on, leading the series 2-0.
Josh Hart led the Knicks with a game-high 23 points, while Brunson contributed 17 points and a game-high seven assists. Karl-Anthony Towns added 21 points and 17 rebounds, and Mikal Bridges scored all of his 14 points in the fourth quarter.
The Knicks, who finished 10 wins behind the Celtics in the regular season, didn't take the lead until the final minutes of the game, following a thrilling comeback from 20 points down in the first game. Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau praised his team's resilience, saying, "We started slowly, got in a big hole, dug our way out, and then guys made a lot of tough plays."
Despite their slow start, the team stepped up in the critical moments of the game. Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla acknowledged the Knicks’ late-game execution, saying, "They made the necessary plays to win. We put ourselves in position to do that and we just didn't make the plays."
In other playoff action, the Oklahoma City Thunder bounced back from a narrow loss in game one to defeat the Denver Nuggets 149-106, tying their semi-final series. The Thunder came out strong, scoring 45 points in the first quarter and tying an NBA playoff record with 87 points in the first half.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the charge with 34 points, while Nikola Jokic, who had 42 points in game one, struggled with just 17 points and eight rebounds before fouling out. Oklahoma City coach Mark Daigneault emphasized the team’s focus, stating, "We came out desperate."
