The New York Knicks strengthened their position in the Eastern Conference finals after defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers 109-93 at Madison Square Garden. The victory gave New York a commanding 2-0 advantage in the best-of-seven series and extended the team’s winning streak to nine games.
The contest was evenly balanced early on, with both teams tied at 53-53. However, the Knicks completely shifted momentum with an impressive 18-point unanswered run, turning the game in their favor and opening up a 71-53 lead. Cleveland struggled to recover as New York maintained control for the remainder of the matchup.
Josh Hart delivered one of the standout performances of the night, scoring 26 points and knocking down five shots from beyond the arc. It marked the highest-scoring playoff game of his career. Jalen Brunson also played a major role in the win, finishing with 19 points and 14 assists. Mikal Bridges contributed 19 points, while Karl-Anthony Towns added 18 for the home side.
After the game, Hart praised the team’s collective mentality, emphasizing that the players are focused on winning rather than individual recognition. He highlighted the squad’s willingness to make sacrifices for the benefit of the team, saying that mindset could help them achieve even greater success.
For Cleveland, Donovan Mitchell led the scoring with 26 points, while James Harden added 18. Despite trailing 2-0 in the series, Mitchell remained optimistic, pointing out that the Cavaliers had previously recovered from a similar deficit against the Detroit Pistons in the previous round before eventually advancing.
The series now shifts to Cleveland, where games three and four are scheduled for Saturday and Monday. The winner of the Eastern Conference finals will face either the Oklahoma City Thunder or the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals, with the Western Conference finals currently level at 1-1.
