Kevin Durant Becomes Eighth Player in NBA History to Reach 31,000 Career Points

Posted : 06 December 2025

Kevin Durant achieved a major career milestone Friday night, becoming the eighth player in NBA history to score 31,000 career points. Durant reached the mark with a 10-foot jumper in the first quarter against his former team, the Phoenix Suns, after needing just four points to reach the milestone. He also added a pair of free throws earlier in the game to surpass the threshold.

Durant finished the contest with 28 points in Houston’s 117-98 victory, bringing his career total to 31,024 points, placing him eighth on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. Rockets coach Ime Udoka praised Durant’s longevity, efficiency, and adaptability, highlighting his ability to maintain elite performance over an extended career.

The game saw Durant start slowly, scoring just four points on 1-of-5 shooting in the first quarter, before catching fire in the second quarter with a season-high 17 points. He credited his rebound to increased confidence and rhythm, stating that taking similar shots eventually paid off.

Just two nights prior, Durant had fallen short of reaching the milestone against the Sacramento Kings, joking about missing the opportunity. Despite his veteran status, career achievements like this continue to hold significant meaning for him.

Teammates, including guard Amen Thompson, expressed awe at Durant’s accomplishment. Durant remains eighth on the NBA’s all-time scoring list, trailing LeBron James, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Dirk Nowitzki, and Wilt Chamberlain. With continued health, he is on track to surpass Chamberlain and Nowitzki this season, and potentially challenge Jordan for a higher spot.

Reflecting on his journey, Durant emphasized the influence of the league’s legends and his drive to reach their level. He remains motivated to climb the scoring charts while continuing to deliver high-level performances on the court.
