Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns has become the eighth player in NBA history to reach 30,000 career points. The 36-year-old achieved the milestone with a free throw, contributing to his 26th point out of 34 in the Suns’ 119-112 defeat to the Memphis Grizzlies. This accomplishment came in Durant's 1,101st career game, making him the joint-third fastest player to reach 30,000 points, alongside Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Durant's achievement places him in an exclusive group, with only Wilt Chamberlain (941 games) and Michael Jordan (960 games) having reached the 30,000-point mark in fewer games. Despite the Suns’ loss, Durant’s remarkable scoring ability was evident, continuing to solidify his legacy in the league.
Suns head coach Mike Budenholzer praised Durant, calling him the most incredible shotmaker he has ever been around. Budenholzer highlighted Durant's exceptional skill in shooting over defenders, his height, and ball-handling, adding that if Durant isn't considered the best shotmaker, he's unsure who else would be.
