Kevin Durant Climbs to Fifth on NBA All-Time Scoring List as Rockets Edge Heat

Posted : 22 March 2026

Kevin Durant made history on Saturday night by moving past Michael Jordan on the NBA’s all-time career scoring list. The Houston Rockets forward entered the game needing 26 points to eclipse the legendary Chicago Bulls guard. He finished the night with 27 points, three rebounds, and three assists to secure his spot in the record books.

The milestone moment arrived in the fourth quarter when Durant sank a crucial three-pointer to push his career total to 32,294 points. This achievement places him behind only LeBron James, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, and Kobe Bryant. Durant shot an efficient 9-of-17 from the field and remained perfect from the free-throw line during his 37 minutes of action.

After the game, Durant expressed deep respect for the man he finally overtook in the standings. He noted that Jordan exists in a galaxy of his own and served as a primary inspiration for his career. The veteran forward admitted that being mentioned alongside such greats is a sweet reward for his years of hard work.

The game itself provided a dramatic backdrop to Durant's individual success. Houston led by eight points late in the match before Miami mounted a fierce comeback. A goaltending call against Jabari Smith Jr. actually put the Heat ahead by one point with only five seconds remaining.

Amen Thompson saved the night for the Rockets with a tip-in at the buzzer to secure the 123-122 win. Thompson finished the game with a massive double-double of 24 points and 18 rebounds. Rookie Reed Sheppard also played a vital role by contributing 23 points and 14 assists in the victory.

This win improves the Rockets' record to 43-27 for the season. They currently sit in fourth place in the Western Conference standings. The team now prepares for a road trip to face the Chicago Bulls on Monday night.
