Kentavious Caldwell-Pope Picks Up $21.6 Million Option to Remain with Grizzlies

Posted : 20 June 2026

Veteran guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has decided to remain with the Memphis Grizzlies for the 2026-27 campaign after exercising the player option in his contract worth $21.6 million. The move ensures the two-time NBA champion will continue his tenure in Memphis for at least one more season.

Caldwell-Pope's 2025-26 season was disrupted by injury after he underwent surgery in February to correct an issue with his right pinkie finger. The procedure sidelined him for the final 31 games of the season, limiting his overall impact during his first year with the Grizzlies.

The 33-year-old appeared in 51 games, making 14 starts, and averaged 8.4 points, 2.7 assists and 2.5 rebounds in 21.3 minutes per game. His production dipped to its lowest levels since his rookie season, while he converted 49.5 percent of his two-point attempts and shot 31.6 percent from beyond the arc.

The upcoming season represents the final year of Caldwell-Pope's three-year, $66 million contract. He arrived in Memphis from the Orlando Magic last offseason as part of the trade that sent Desmond Bane away from the franchise.

Known throughout his career as a dependable two-way contributor, Caldwell-Pope built a reputation as one of the league’s reliable perimeter defenders and floor spacers. However, his three-point efficiency has declined over the past two seasons, failing to surpass 34.2 percent after previously shooting at least 39 percent from long range in four consecutive years.

Despite the recent drop in offensive production, Memphis will hope the experienced guard can return healthy and provide leadership, defensive intensity and championship experience as the team looks to strengthen its roster heading into the new season.
