Kawhi Leonard Agrees to Two-Year, $115 Million Extension with Raptors

Kawhi Leonard has agreed to a two-year, $115 million contract extension with the Toronto Raptors, including a player option for the 2028-29 season, according to ESPN and other reports. The agreement keeps the two-time NBA Finals MVP in Toronto for at least the next two seasons beyond his current contract.

The extension gives Leonard three years and $165 million remaining on his Raptors contract. The 35-year-old reportedly accepted around $11 million less than his maximum extension amount and waived a $7.45 million trade kicker, giving Toronto additional flexibility with its future salary commitments.

Leonard returned to Toronto through a blockbuster trade with the Los Angeles Clippers after spending six seasons with the franchise. The Raptors sent Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, two unprotected first-round picks, a first-round pick swap and two second-round selections to acquire him.

The trade was delayed while the NBA investigated allegations that the Clippers had circumvented salary-cap rules involving Leonard. The league ultimately fined Leonard $700,000, while the Clippers were punished with a $30 million fine and the loss of five future first-round picks, among other sanctions.

Leonard previously led Toronto to the only championship in franchise history in 2019 before joining the Clippers that summer. He is coming off the highest-scoring season of his NBA career, averaging 27.9 points per game in 65 appearances for Los Angeles during the 2025-26 season.

The new agreement also gives Leonard control over the final season through his 2028-29 player option. Reports indicate that Leonard expects to finish his career in Toronto, although the option means he will retain the ability to make a decision on his future after the 2027-28 campaign.
