Kano Pillars bow out of NBPL Final 8 on winning note

Kano Pillars Basketball Club rounded off their 2026 Nigeria Basketball Premier League (NBPL) Final 8 Playoffs campaign on a positive note, defeating Hoops & Read 68-53 in their final-day encounter in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The victory provided a fitting finish to the competition for the Kano-based side, who battled against some of the country’s top teams during the playoffs.

Head coach Abubakar Usman, popularly known as Inda Habu, praised his players and technical staff for their dedication, discipline and commitment throughout the competition.

Usman said the Final 8 provided the team with valuable experience, adding that the victory in their final game demonstrated Kano Pillars’ ability to compete against quality opposition.

“We thank God for allowing us to complete this competition. We faced great teams and learned a lot. Our victory in the final shows that the team has the strength to compete,” he said.

The coach also expressed appreciation to the Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, Alhaji Muhammad Tukur Babangida, for his continued support of the club.

According to him, the chairman’s efforts to improve the allowances of players and coaches have boosted their confidence and enabled them to perform their responsibilities with greater commitment.

“We commend the players for their determination and will continue to work hard to see Kano Pillars achieve more successes and elevate the status of Kano State in the field of sports,” Usman added.

The coach’s comments were contained in a statement issued by Ahmad Babandi Gama, Media and Publicity Assistant to the Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission.
