Jordan Nwora Basketball Camp tips off in Lagos Friday, targets future stars

Lagos will play host to some of Nigeria's brightest young basketball prospects this weekend as the Jordan Nwora Basketball Camp begins on Friday at the Ilupeju Basketball Court, offering a unique platform for skill development, mentorship, and talent identification.

The three-day camp, which concludes on Sunday, will bring together 120 participants, made up of 60 boys and 60 girls from across the country. The initiative is designed to provide aspiring players with quality coaching, competitive learning experiences, and valuable exposure to basketball development pathways.

Organisers revealed that the camp's original June 14 start date was adjusted for logistical reasons, assuring participants and stakeholders that all necessary arrangements have been completed to ensure a successful programme.

Speaking ahead of the event, Alex Nwora said the camp is structured to help young athletes improve their technical skills, basketball IQ, and overall understanding of the game.

"Our goal is to create an environment where players can learn, compete, and grow. We want them to leave the camp with improved skills and a better appreciation of what it takes to excel in basketball," Nwora said.

Retired Colonel Sam Ahmedu also highlighted the camp's importance in supporting grassroots basketball development in Nigeria, noting that the initiative goes beyond on-court instruction.

"This programme is about empowering young people through sport. It provides access to quality coaching, mentorship, and opportunities that can help shape their future both in basketball and in life," Ahmedu stated.

Since its launch, the Jordan Nwora Basketball Camp has evolved into a respected regional development initiative. Following successful editions in Liberia and Ghana, the programme's arrival in Nigeria underscores its growing influence in promoting youth basketball across West Africa.

In addition to technical training, participants will benefit from mentorship sessions, leadership development, and guidance on pathways to scholarships and professional opportunities.
