JJ Redick Dismisses Online Buzz Over Bench Exchange with Luka Doncic

Los Angeles Lakers coach JJ Redick downplayed the attention surrounding a brief but heated bench exchange with star guard Luka Doncic, saying he did not understand why the clip went viral.

The interaction occurred during the Lakers’ 129-101 road win over the Golden State Warriors on Saturday, when Doncic was subbed out and did not accept Redick’s fist bump. The two exchanged words on the sideline before teammates intervened, but Redick emphasized that such moments are common in competitive games.

“I didn’t think much of it at the time, to be honest with you,” Redick said ahead of the Lakers’ game against the New Orleans Pelicans. He stressed that he and Doncic share a strong relationship, adding that intense exchanges often happen between players and coaches or among teammates during the heat of competition.

A Lakers source confirmed that frustration during a losing streak is typical in the NBA, noting the team had dropped three consecutive games prior to the Warriors matchup.

Despite the brief confrontation, both Redick and Doncic treated the situation lightly afterward. Redick described discussing the moment with Doncic, laughing about it and confirming there was no tension.

Doncic, who scored 26 points and recorded 8 assists against Golden State, helped lead the Lakers to another win over the Sacramento Kings, underscoring that the on-court exchange was simply part of their competitive drive rather than any underlying conflict.
