JCA Kings Set Historic Rebounding Record Despite Defeat Against Club Africain in Sahara Conference

Posted : 30 April 2026

The JCA Kings made history at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat despite falling to a 79-74 overtime loss against Club Africain. The Ivorian champions dominated the glass with a staggering 65 rebounds; this performance tied the all-time Basketball Africa League (BAL) record. The previous record was set by the Rivers Hoopers during a double-overtime victory against APR in May 2025. Notably, the Kings achieved this mark in just one five-minute overtime period.

The Kings established their physical dominance from the opening tip-off. They out-rebounded their Tunisian opponents 17-9 in the first ten minutes to secure a 19-10 lead. By the end of the second quarter, the gap widened to 30-18 as the Kings took a 13-point lead into the halftime break. Their rebounding total reached 60 by the end of regulation time; this highlighted a persistent effort in the paint throughout the contest.

Four JCA Kings players reached double figures in rebounding during the historic night. Chris Crawford, Babatunde William, Chris Echui, and Cheikh Diong all finished with at least 10 boards each. The team also recorded 23 offensive rebounds; this fell just short of the league record of 26 held by AS Douanes and the Rivers Hoopers. Club Africain forward Jamelle Hagins admitted after the game that the Kings' active big men caused significant problems.

Despite the record-breaking effort, the Kings struggled with ball security. They committed 18 turnovers compared to only four by Club Africain. This disparity allowed the Tunisian side to claw back from a 15-point deficit. Aminu Mohamed led the comeback for Club Africain with 21 points; meanwhile, Jonathan Cissé scored 30 points for the Kings in the losing effort.

The result confirms Club Africain's spot in the playoffs with a 3-0 record. They sit at the top of the Sahara Conference standings. The JCA Kings remain at the bottom of the table with three consecutive losses. They must now win their remaining two fixtures to keep their playoff hopes alive. The team will look to translate their rebounding strength into a first victory of the season in the coming days.
