James Harden Surpasses Shaquille O’Neal to Claim Ninth on NBA All-Time Scoring List

Posted : 13 January 2026

James Harden etched his name further into NBA history on Monday night, passing Shaquille O’Neal for ninth place on the league’s all-time scoring list.

The Los Angeles Clippers guard drained a 3-pointer early in the third quarter against the Charlotte Hornets at Inglewood’s Intuit Dome, bringing his career total to 28,598 points in 1,187 regular-season games. O’Neal scored 28,596 points over 1,207 games during his 19-year career.

Reflecting on the milestone, Harden said, “Shaquille O’Neal, somebody that I literally grew up watching here in L.A., him and Kobe doing their thing, winning multiple championships, the most dominant big man in the history of the game. It's a true honor, it's a testament to the work that I put in.”

Harden finished the game with 32 points and 10 assists, helping the Clippers secure a 117-109 victory over the Hornets. He scored 13 points in the first half, including 11 in the first quarter, and added 11 in the third and eight in the fourth, increasing his career total to 28,614 points.

Harden, who entered the night averaging 25.6 points per game—his highest since the 2019-20 season—faces a challenging climb toward eighth place, held by Wilt Chamberlain with 31,419 points.

LeBron James remains the all-time leader with 42,601 points, followed by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Dirk Nowitzki, and Kevin Durant.

In addition to his scoring milestone, Harden recently moved to 12th on the all-time assists list with 8,604 and ranks second in career 3-pointers made, behind Stephen Curry.
