Jamal Shead Agrees to Three-Year, $24 Million Raptors Extension

Posted : 01 October 2026

Toronto Raptors guard Jamal Shead has agreed to a three-year, $24 million contract extension, securing his future with the franchise through the 2029-30 NBA season. His agent, KJ Smith, confirmed the agreement to ESPN on Thursday.

The 24-year-old guard joined Toronto after being selected 45th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft. The Sacramento Kings initially drafted Shead before he was traded to the Raptors the following day.

Shead enjoyed a productive second NBA season in 2025-26, appearing in all 82 regular-season games and making 12 starts. He averaged 6.6 points, 5.4 assists and 1.7 rebounds per game while establishing himself as an important part of Toronto's rotation.

His contribution off the bench was particularly notable. Shead recorded 354 assists as a reserve, the most among NBA bench players last season and a franchise record for a Raptors substitute.

He also played all seven games of Toronto's first-round playoff series against the Cleveland Cavaliers, starting four times. Shead increased his production in the postseason, averaging nine points, five assists and 1.4 steals per game.

The new contract rewards Shead after just two seasons in the NBA and ensures that Toronto will retain the guard beyond his original rookie contract. The extension begins after the 2026-27 season and runs through 2029-30.
