Jaden McDaniels Signs $40 Million Extension with Minnesota Timberwolves

Posted : 20 October 2026

Minnesota Timberwolves forward Jaden McDaniels has agreed to a one-year, $40 million contract extension that will keep him with the franchise through the 2029–30 NBA season. The agreement, confirmed by his representatives to ESPN, provides additional security for the 26-year-old while giving him flexibility to pursue another lucrative contract in the coming years.

The extension allows McDaniels to negotiate a further deal as early as 2028, potentially beginning at up to 140% of his $40 million salary. Alternatively, he could enter free agency in the summer of 2030, when he would have completed 10 years in the NBA. The new agreement leaves Minnesota committed to paying him approximately $124 million over the next four years.

McDaniels enjoyed the most productive season of his NBA career in 2025–26, averaging 14.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. He shot 51.5% from the field and 41.2% from three-point range, establishing new personal bests in scoring and shooting efficiency.

His performances improved further during the playoffs, when he averaged 16.3 points per game. McDaniels also delivered a crucial 32-point performance in Game 6 against the Denver Nuggets, helping Minnesota eliminate its Western Conference rivals in the first round.

Selected 28th overall in the 2020 NBA Draft, McDaniels has developed into one of Minnesota’s most important two-way players. His defensive versatility makes him a key component of the Timberwolves’ perimeter defence, while his growing offensive contribution has increased his value to the franchise.

With Anthony Edwards, Rudy Gobert and newly acquired LaMelo Ball among the team’s key players, Minnesota will rely on McDaniels to maintain his progress. Edwards has also backed his teammate to reach the NBA All-Star level, reflecting the confidence surrounding his continued development.
