Ja Morant Leads Grizzlies to Overtime Win in Season’s Highest-Scoring NBA Game

Posted : 26 February 2025

Ja Morant delivered a standout performance with 29 points and eight assists, including a crucial pass to Jaylen Wells for a dunk in the final seconds of overtime, as the Memphis Grizzlies secured a thrilling 151-148 victory over the Phoenix Suns.

The game was a back-and-forth battle featuring 22 ties and 22 lead changes, with Phoenix at one point holding a 10-point lead in the third quarter. The 299 total points marked the highest-scoring game of the NBA season, according to ESPN Research.

Jaren Jackson Jr. contributed 28 points for Memphis before fouling out in the fourth quarter, while Desmond Bane added 25 points and nine assists. Meanwhile, Phoenix saw five players score at least 20 points in a game for the first time since 1990, with Devin Booker leading the way with 28 points and 10 assists before also fouling out.

Kevin Durant scored 26 points, Bradley Beal tallied 24 points and 11 assists, Bol Bol had a season-high 23 points, and Grayson Allen finished with 21.

Morant struggled early, shooting just 2-of-14 through three quarters before erupting for 15 points in the fourth, including Memphis’ final 11 points of regulation. He hit a critical floater with 1.4 seconds remaining to force overtime, despite shooting a career-worst 1-for-12 from beyond the arc.

In the extra period, Memphis closed on a 7-0 run, with Santi Aldama hitting a three-pointer and Brandon Clarke scoring on a tip-in to put the Grizzlies ahead. Phoenix’s slump continued with its sixth loss in seven games, leaving the team further adrift in the race for a play-in spot.
