Hawks Acquire Aaron Wiggins from Thunder in Draft-Pick Trade

Posted : 22 June 2026

The Atlanta Hawks are close to completing a trade that will bring guard Aaron Wiggins from the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for two future second-round draft picks, according to reports.

As part of the agreement, Oklahoma City will receive Atlanta’s 2030 second-round selection and the less favorable of either the Hawks’ or the Los Angeles Lakers’ 2032 second-round pick. The move helps the Thunder significantly reduce their projected luxury-tax bill while also creating additional roster flexibility.

The financial savings are substantial for Oklahoma City, with the trade reportedly lowering the team's anticipated tax penalty from approximately $213 million to $152 million. The deal also opens a roster spot, leaving the Thunder with 14 contracted players, including Lu Dort, Isaiah Hartenstein, and Kenrich Williams, whose contracts contain team options for next season.

For Atlanta, the acquisition adds a versatile 27-year-old guard who played an important supporting role during Oklahoma City’s championship-winning 2024-25 campaign. Wiggins averaged 12.0 points and 3.9 rebounds in 23 minutes per game during that title-winning regular season and contributed valuable minutes throughout the playoff run.

Last season, the 6-foot-5 guard appeared in 65 games, making 21 starts while averaging 9.4 points per contest. Drafted 55th overall in 2021, Wiggins now joins a Hawks team that has been actively reshaping its roster with young players seeking expanded opportunities.

Atlanta has already been busy this offseason, securing CJ McCollum on a one-year contract extension and continuing to build around emerging talent. The franchise also added Nickeil Alexander-Walker, who enjoyed a breakout campaign and earned Most Improved Player honors, while Jonathan Kuminga arrived from the Golden State Warriors before the trade deadline and remains a key part of the club’s plans.

After falling in the first round of the playoffs despite taking a 2-1 series lead against the eventual champion New York Knicks, the Hawks are looking to strengthen their roster ahead of the upcoming season. Atlanta also holds the eighth and 23rd selections in this week's NBA Draft, while Oklahoma City owns the 12th and 17th picks.
