Grizzlies edge Bucks 113-110 in thrilling clash, Williams and Jackson Shine

Posted : 16 February 2024

Ziaire Williams and GG Jackson showcased stellar performances, each scoring 27 points, guiding the Memphis Grizzlies to a hard-fought 113-110 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks in the final game for both teams before the All-Star break.

Vince Williams contributed significantly with 18 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists for Memphis, while Ziaire Williams achieved a career-high point tally, expressing pride in the team's collective effort. The Grizzlies managed to secure a notable win against the No. 3 team in the Eastern Conference, with Ziaire Williams highlighting the team's resilience and camaraderie.

Despite a formidable effort from Giannis Antetokounmpo, who recorded 35 points and 12 assists, the Bucks succumbed to the Grizzlies in a game that saw Memphis holding a nine-point lead with 49 seconds remaining.

The Bucks, closing as 14½-point favorites, experienced their third-largest upset loss in the past 30 years, emphasizing the Grizzlies' determination. Milwaukee's attempt to stage a comeback fell short, with Malik Beasley's consecutive 3-pointers narrowing the gap to 113-110. However, Memphis held firm in the closing seconds, securing their second consecutive victory.

While the Grizzlies had a 92-82 lead late in the third quarter, shooting an impressive 76%, Antetokounmpo's dominant presence kept the Bucks in contention. The game featured a see-saw battle with lead exchanges until crucial plays from Jackson and Ziaire Williams, including an alley-oop dunk and a subsequent free throw, elevated the Grizzlies to a 107-102 advantage with 2:15 left. Despite a late surge from the Bucks, Memphis clinched the win as the buzzer-beating attempt from Damian Lillard fell short.

The Grizzlies faced challenges with a depleted frontline and received further setbacks as Scotty Pippen Jr. was announced to miss at least three weeks due to a bulging disk in his lower back. Despite the hurdles, Memphis displayed resilience, and Jackson, the 19-year-old rising talent, remained composed, emphasizing the thrill of being in crucial moments on the court. The game, marked by its intensity, showcased the Grizzlies' ability to rise to the occasion against a formidable opponent like the Bucks.
