Giannis Antetokounmpo Leads Greece Past Lithuania to EuroBasket Semifinals

Posted : 10 September 2025

Giannis Antetokounmpo produced a commanding performance as Greece defeated Lithuania 87-76 on Tuesday to advance to the EuroBasket semifinals. The Milwaukee Bucks superstar scored 29 points and hit crucial free throws in the final minute to secure the win.

Lithuania had cut Greece’s 16-point fourth-quarter lead in half, but Antetokounmpo steadied the nerves, sinking two free throws with 47 seconds left before adding another pair with 19 seconds remaining to restore a double-digit cushion.

His younger brother, Kostas Antetokounmpo, made a major defensive impact with four blocked shots, all in the first half. The Olympiakos center helped set the tone early, while teammate Vasileios Toliopoulos contributed 17 points in the victory.

Greece, champions in 1987 and 2005, will now meet Turkey in the last four. Lithuania’s Jonas Valanciunas was outstanding in defeat, recording 24 points and 15 rebounds, but it was not enough to prevent elimination.

Earlier in the day, Turkey maintained their unbeaten run with a 91-77 victory over Poland, thanks to a dazzling display from Alperen Sengun. The Houston Rockets forward registered a triple-double of 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists, including highlight passes and a reverse dunk that thrilled the crowd.

Despite Poland’s late push, three-point shooting from Sehmus Hazer, combined with Sengun’s all-around brilliance, ensured Turkey pulled away in the second half. Mateusz Ponitka and Jordan Loyd top-scored for Poland with 19 points each.

The quarterfinal action continues Wednesday, with Finland facing Georgia and Germany taking on Slovenia. Georgia is making its first appearance at this stage after eliminating France, while Finland boasts Utah Jazz star Lauri Markkanen and rising forward Miikka Muurinen.

Meanwhile, Slovenia’s Luka Dončić enters on the back of a 42-point performance against Italy. The Los Angeles Lakers guard is chasing his fifth 30-point game of the tournament, and fans are already anticipating a possible showdown between Dončić and Sengun for the EuroBasket crown.
