France Crush D’Tigress 111-56 as Nigeria End World Cup Campaign Winless

Posted : 08 September 2026

Nigeria’s D’Tigress ended their 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup campaign without a victory after suffering a heavy 111-56 defeat to France in their final Group B game in Berlin. The 55-point loss was Nigeria’s third defeat in three matches and left the African champions at the bottom of their group.

France dominated from the opening minutes and established a commanding 31-13 lead after the first quarter. The French side then produced 34 points in the second period to take a 65-26 advantage into halftime.

D’Tigress struggled to match France’s offensive quality throughout the contest. Nigeria scored only 13 points in each of the first three quarters before improving slightly with 17 points in the final period.

France continued to pull away in the third quarter, outscoring Nigeria 30-13 to move 95-36 ahead. Nigeria finally won the fourth quarter 17-16, but the deficit was already too large to overcome.

Gabby Williams led France with 25 points and six rebounds and was named the Player of the Game. France also made 22 three-pointers, setting a new FIBA Women’s World Cup record for three-point makes in a single game.

Grace Efosa-Aguebor led Nigeria with 15 points, while Rita Igbokwe collected nine rebounds. Amy Okonkwo added eight rebounds and three assists as D’Tigress struggled to contain France’s scoring depth.

The result completed a difficult group-stage campaign for the reigning African champions. Nigeria had earlier lost 99-81 to South Korea before suffering a narrow 71-67 defeat to Hungary.

The result was a sharp contrast to Nigeria’s recent success on the continent and at the Olympics. D’Tigress entered the tournament as five-time consecutive African champions and had reached the quarter-finals at the 2024 Paris Olympics for the first time in their history.

France, meanwhile, completed a perfect 3-0 group-stage record and advanced to the quarter-finals. For Nigeria, the focus now shifts to rebuilding and preparing for their next international assignments after a difficult World Cup campaign.
