Nigeria’s national basketball team, the DTigers, is set to begin its campaign for the 2027 Basketball World Cup with a challenging matchup against Tunisia in the African qualifying tournament held in Tunis.
The 12-member Nigerian squad arrived yesterday, with Head Coach Abdulrahman Mohammed leading preparations ahead of Friday’s opening game.
In anticipation of their first clash against the host nation, the DTigers conducted a one-hour training session, with all invited players participating in the warm-up exercises.
Following the Tunisia game, Nigeria will face Guinea on 29 November before concluding their Group C campaign against Rwanda the next day.
The qualifiers will resume next March, with the top three teams from each of the four groups advancing to the final round. In this stage, the 12 qualified teams will be split into two new pools of six, based on their cumulative records from the preliminary round.
Group A will be paired with Group C, while Group B will merge with Group D for the deciding round. Each team will play six matches, facing teams they have not yet encountered, with the objective of determining Africa’s five representatives for the 2027 Basketball World Cup for men, which will be held in Doha, Qatar.
