Doncic sets NBA record with fourth 35-point triple-double in a row

Posted : 08 March 2024

Luka Doncic made NBA history by achieving his fourth consecutive 35-point triple-double, leading the Dallas Mavericks to a crucial 114-108 victory over the Miami Heat. The stellar performance, featuring 35 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists, surpassed the previous record shared by Oscar Robertson and Russell Westbrook.

Despite Doncic's individual brilliance, the Mavericks had faced a three-game losing streak and dropped five of their last six, making the win a much-needed boost for the team.

Dallas, currently 35-28, overcame a 15-point deficit after tweaking their starting lineup. Despite initially struggling, the Mavericks displayed defensive improvement, limiting the Heat to 25 or fewer points in the final three quarters.

Doncic, the NBA's scoring leader, continued his trend of exceptional numbers, hitting a remarkable turnaround 3-pointer in the fourth quarter that showcased his scoring prowess. The victory was Doncic's 15th triple-double of the season and the 71st of his career, ranking ninth in NBA history.

Doncic's extraordinary run includes averaging a triple-double (36.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 10.5 assists) over the past 23 games, earning praise from teammates and opponents alike.

Mavericks coach Jason Kidd highlighted Doncic's composure on the court, acknowledging the improvement in his demeanor, marked by a recent absence of technical fouls.

Kidd likened Doncic's rare talent to a masterpiece, emphasizing the significance of cherishing every moment witnessing his greatness on the basketball court.
