De'Aaron Fox will make his debut for the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday against the Atlanta Hawks, as announced by the team. The All-Star guard was acquired in a three-team trade that involved multiple players and draft picks, joining forces with the Spurs’ prized center, Victor Wembanyama.
The trade was finalized on Monday, and although Fox was initially listed as questionable, he was upgraded to available on Tuesday night.
Acting head coach Mitch Johnson expressed confidence in Fox’s readiness, noting that there were no concerns about his conditioning. However, he acknowledged the process of integrating Fox into the team, stating that it will take some time for him to adjust to the Spurs' system and terminology.
Despite limited practice time, the team is eager to get Fox involved and start the collaboration with Wembanyama and the rest of the squad.
Fox, who is currently averaging 25.0 points, 6.1 assists, and 5.0 rebounds this season, will add significant depth to the Spurs' backcourt. His addition raises questions about how the lineup will be adjusted, particularly since Chris Paul and rookie Stephon Castle also play the guard position.
The dynamic of the team will evolve as Fox integrates into the system, and his pairing with Wembanyama is expected to be a major talking point moving forward.
