D'Tigress Step Up World Cup Preparations with Multi-Nation Training Tour

Nigeria's senior women's basketball team, D'Tigress, have officially begun preparations for the 2026 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup with an extensive international training and competition programme ahead of the tournament in Germany.

The reigning African champions started their build-up with a training camp in Chicago, United States. The camp marks the first stage of a carefully planned schedule designed to sharpen the squad before the World Cup tips off in Berlin in September.

After completing their camp in Chicago, D'Tigress will travel to Haikou, China, where they are scheduled to play three friendly matches against the Chinese national team. The games are expected to provide valuable experience against one of Asia's strongest basketball nations while helping the coaching staff assess the team's progress.

The next phase of the tour will take the Nigerian side to Tenerife, Spain. There, D'Tigress will face European heavyweights Spain and Belgium in additional warm-up fixtures. Both nations are among the leading teams in women's basketball, making the matches an important test before the World Cup.

The team's final preparations will be held in Berlin, Germany. The coaching crew will use the camp to fine-tune tactics, improve team chemistry, and make final adjustments before the start of the global tournament.

Nigeria qualified automatically for the 2026 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup after winning the 2025 FIBA Women's AfroBasket title. The achievement secured D'Tigress a place among the 16 teams competing for the world championship in Berlin.

The World Cup draw placed Nigeria in Group B alongside France, Hungary, and South Korea. The African champions will be aiming to build on their growing reputation on the world stage after consistently challenging some of the strongest basketball nations in recent years.

The international tour is expected to give D'Tigress valuable match practice against elite opposition while helping players reach peak condition. With encounters against China, Spain, and Belgium before the tournament, Nigeria will have several opportunities to test different combinations and strengthen their chances of making a deep run at the 2026 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup.
