D'Tigress Discover Schedule For 2026 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup Group Fixtures

Posted : 20 May 2026

Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball national team, D’Tigress, have officially learned their schedule for the upcoming 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Berlin, Germany. The reigning five-time African champions were placed in Group B alongside European heavyweights France, South Korea, and Hungary. The tournament will feature an expanded roster of 16 global teams competing from September 4 through September 13, 2026.

According to the official schedules released by the world basketball governing body, D’Tigress will open their World Cup campaign on Friday, September 4, against South Korea. The match is scheduled to tip off at 1:30 pm West African Time (WAT) at the Uber Arena in Berlin. Nigeria holds a historic 2-1 advantage over the Asian side, although South Korea won their recent meeting at the qualifying tournament.

The Nigerian ladies will return to the court just 24 hours later for their second group fixture. They will lock horns with Hungary on Saturday, September 5, at 1:15 pm WAT at the Max-Schmeling-Halle. This encounter will mark the first time both nations meet in a competitive basketball tournament. Hungary enters the competition as the lowest-ranked team in the World Cup pool.

Following a much-needed recovery day, the Coach Rena Wakama-led team will play their final group game against global powerhouse France on Monday, September 7. The highly anticipated game is billed for 1:30 pm WAT. France, the silver medalists from the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, defeated Nigeria 93-86 during the qualifying phase in Lyon and are heavily favored to top the group.

The top team from each group will advance directly to the quarter-finals, while the second and third-placed teams must battle through a qualification round. The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has confirmed that the team will embark on a promotional United States tour to play selected WNBA franchises. This tour is designed to properly prepare the squad to surpass their historic 2018 World Cup quarter-final finish.
