Team Nigeria’s D’Tigress, the reigning champions of the Afrobasket Championships, have departed for Abidjan, the capital city of Côte d'Ivoire, to defend their title in the 2025 edition of the tournament.
The President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Ahmadu Musa Kida, was present to bid farewell to the team at their base — the Double D Apartments in Abuja.
In his address, Kida encouraged the players to give their all and showcase their excellence on the court. He urged them to aim for an unprecedented fifth consecutive title, which would set a new African record and extend the legacy they already hold.
He also assured the team of the unwavering support of their fans across Nigeria, emphasizing that the nation is firmly behind them and praying for their success. Kida reminded the players of the importance of representing the country with pride and being exemplary ambassadors on and off the court.
Speaking on behalf of the team, captain Amy Okonkwo expressed gratitude to Engr. Kida and the entire NBBF Board for their consistent and tireless support over the years. She commended the federation for always meeting the team's needs and for the warm hospitality and care they’ve received during their preparations for the tournament.
With high spirits and national pride, D’Tigress now set their sights on defending their crown and making history in Abidjan.
